11/2009 - I am in the process of transcribing my grandfathers tapes. He was captured twice as a POW and his story is amazing. To be able to hear him in his own voice tell the stories of his many adventures has made me dream of telling his story to the world. His story needs to be told, its not all doom and gloom, it is a story of what people do to survive and a love story between my grandparents and how their love survived all the trials along the way. Its a story of betrayal, adventure, luck and love. Stay tuned.
03/2010 - Our production is moving forward quite rapidly now. I have just received my new 7D camera, which we will be shooting this entire project on, and bought the lenses this past weekend. We have secured the uniforms and shooting locations. I am getting so excited as things are just falling into place as a sign that I am supposed to be telling this story right now. We start filming this week!
Kids Aging out of the "System"
I am passionate about children, especially foster children. I am writing and producing stories that come from real life experiences about teens who once they turn 18 have aged out of the system and what becomes of them. Whether or not, with real life skills or not, educated or not...
Nadine Marsh-Carter, Director of The Children's Home Society of Virginia adopted through the agency herself, says the older children forced into foster care because of abuse and neglect are often misunderstood. "There are all these misconceptions that they're not good kids or that they're juvenile delinquents, and these simply aren't true. They're great kids waiting for an opportunity to have a family of their own."
Those who don't find a family face some scary statistics. She also says, "One in four will end up incarcerated within two years of getting out of the foster care system, that's a tragedy both in the child's life and our community's life, and one in five will end up homeless within that same two year period." Only 3% of foster children will graduate from a four-year college. Foster care children who age out at 18 may not have the foundation to live a healthy, successful & productive life. Stay Tuned...
